STEPHANIE MCKAY: Telling It Like It Is...

The Afro-topped Big Apple singer/songwriter STEPHANIE McKAY - who was featured to good effect on jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove's RH Factor album 'Distractions' in 2006 - releases her third solo set 'Tell It Like It Is' on July 14th. It's the follow-up to her 2006 long player, 'Stephanie McKay.' Fusing thoughtful, intelligent lyrics with old school-style funk and soul workouts - think Sly Stone meets Stax via Prince - the singer's new 12-track CD is released on the Muthas Of Invention label. A single, 'Jackson Avenue,' is released prior to the parent album on July 7th.

Communicating digitally...DAVID McALMONT

Just reissued in digital download format via Virgin/EMI is DAVID McALMONT's critically-lauded 1998 album, 'A Little Communication,' which is bolstered by seven bonus tracks (among them remixes of the album's title cut and 'Lose My Faith'). The 41 year-old singer/songwriter - who in 1997 famously recorded a sensational version of the James Bond movie tune 'Diamonds Are Forever' with arranger/composer David Arnold that rivalled Shirley Bassey's original - will perform the complete album live as part of the London Jazz Festival on 16th November at the capital's Jazz Café venue.

PATTI LABELLE...Live and direct from the vaults.

Just out in the States on Epic/Legacy/Philadelphia International is a scintillating live set cut in 1982 from stentorian soul diva, PATTI LABELLE. It was recorded in Washington DC under the aegis of legendary Philly producers, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. 'Patti LaBelle Live In Washington DC' features 14 songs, including electrifying versions of 'Lady Marmalade,' 'The Spirit's In It,' and 'If You Don't Know Me By Now.' The CD climaxes with Patti's spirited rendition of the Judy Garland-associated standard 'Over The Rainbow,' a favourite with the singer since her days leading her group the Blue Belles in the 1960s.
