blueand_dorp21st century blues fans constantly bemoan the lack of new releases in their beloved genre. European label, Black and Tan is one of the few labels which feed that particular hunger. However, what blues purists will make of the label's new release is a matter of conjecture. 'Blues and Beat' from a collective dubbed MIX AND DORB is a totally new concept. MIX AND DORB, you see, have taken a dozen blues gems from Black and Tan's back catalogue and remixed and re-tweaked them.

Amongst the chosen tunes are 'Who Stole The Booty' from BOO BOO DAVIES, 'What You Got' by BIG GEORGE JACKSON and BILLY JONES' 'Ain't Good Lookin''. The team have added new beats and other enhancements, declaring, "Forget the past. It's dead, and so is the way you used to think about the blues. We blast new life into the style by blending modern beats and blasts from the future into existing tracks for a fresh sound that makes the rhythmic heart of the blues beat stronger than ever".

bbkingAP_428x269_to_468x312Musical superlatives are redundant when it comes to describing B.B. KING. He is quite simply a legend – one of the few who truly merits that accolade. The good news is that he's just announced a trio of live concerts in the UK – in Manchester, Edinburgh and London.

The Manchester show is scheduled for the city's O2 Apollo venue on Saturday June 25th. The following day (26th) he travels to the Edinburgh Playhouse then on Tuesday he headlines London's Royal Albert Hall as part of the inaugural London Blues Fest. On all dates KING will be supported by AVERY SUNSHINE

Other artists appearing at the London Blues Fest include DR JOHN, BOOKER T, ROY HARGROVE, LIZA MINNELLI, AL DI MEOLA, KIRK WHALUM, GEORGIE FAME, INCOGNITO and RAMSEY LEWIS who will be recreating his 'Sun Goddess' album live.

susannaSUSANNA WESTWOOD is a UK based singer/dancer who last year set up her own record label – IMPRINT RECORDS and after work with ROOTS MANOEUVRE producer, LOTECK HIFI she's just released her first EP – 'Live Like This'.

The four tracker is headed by the title cut – which mixes pop and soul in an intriguing way. More interesting however is a brave cover of AL GREEN'S 'Tired Of Being Alone'. Like all good cover versions (of whatever song) SUSANNA realizes that there's no point in simply imitating the original in karaoke fashion. Instead she's broken the songs down and reconstructed it a way that breathes new life into it. There's a distinct flavour of dear old LISA STANSFIELD about it and it (like the other three songs on the set) is well worth investigating.
